Make your own body scrub

scrub

It is so easy to make your own body scrub, without chemicals. Here you have two great D.I.Y. body scrubs.

  • 2 cups of Himalayan salt (or sea salt)
  • 1 to 3 tablespoons of soft honey
  • 2 tablespoons of good quality oil like avocado oil or almond oil
  • 10 to 20 drops of essential oil like eucalyptus, peppermint, rosemary or lavender

Put everything in a jar and mix it together with several tablespoons of water. Scrub the whole body with the body scrub and leave it on for 5 to 15 minutes before showering it off.

If you want to have a great magnesium scrub, just use Epsom salt and some good quality oil.

Enjoy!

The first “sugar free” school in Sweden

haninge

No more birthday celebrations or treats and no more “fika”* for the grown ups.

This is a picture from one of the first sugar free schools in Sweden. No sugar, more physical activity and more play are the new prescriptions for the children in the schools in this area, just outside Stockholm.

I think the Sugar Initiative would be pleased.

This is the article in Swedish.

* Fika is a very important Swedish word which means coffee break; gathering for e.g. coffee or tea and something to it like cinnamon buns, cookies, or cakes. But, you can “fika” healthy too or just be social.

Sugar Science Initiative

sugarscience-1024x465

The research shows strong evidence of links between the over consumption of added sugar and chronic diseases, including Type 2 diabetes, heart disease and liver disease. It also reveals evidence linking sugar to Alzheimer’s disease and cancer, although the team assessed that more research is needed before those links can be considered conclusive.

The average American consumes nearly three times the recommended amount of added sugar every day, which is taking a tremendous toll on our nation’s health.

SugarScience.org cites research showing that drinking just one can of soda per day can increase a person’s risk of dying from heart disease by nearly one-third, and can raise the risk of getting Type 2 diabetes by one-quarter.

More than 27 million Americans have been diagnosed with heart disease, which is the nation’s leading cause of death. Another 25.8 million Americans have Type 2 diabetes, caused by the body’s resistance to the hormone insulin coupled with the inability to produce enough insulin to regulate blood sugar levels.

Twenty years ago, type 2 diabetes was unheard of among children, but now, more than 13,000 children are diagnosed with it each year. Diabetes is a devastating disease and we know that it is directly related to the added sugar we consume in food and beverages.

Another rising concern is the impact of added sugar on Non-Alcoholic Fatty Liver Disease (NAFLD), which affects 31 percent of adults and 13 percent of children, and can lead to cirrhosis and liver failure.

Look Dad, I can ride my bike: The story of a five year old

bike

In June of this year, when I moved back to Sweden from the U.S., I saw it. I saw that something amazing had happened to the 5-year old boy living close to us. The boy that one year prior hardly spoke, was now very different. I asked the family to write their story: (more…)

wheat

This is the second part of a two part series, check out the first post if you missed it, about when Dr. Davis asked his followers on Wheat Belly Facebook page:

Parents: What have you noticed in your CHILDREN who have gone wheat- and grain-free?

Our 5 1/2 year old is no longer falling asleep unexpectedly during the day. She is in better spirits, has no more sudden mucus-like bowel movements or diarrhea, has no more rashes on bottom or backs of arms and is overall soooo much better!!

Why we shouldn’t give gluten to kids! Part 1

bread

It makes me sad to hear about children with health problems; many of them are so young and already struggling with health issues. Read some of the quotes below for answers to why many of our children, and many of us, should not eat grains. Tell me afterwards; do you think becoming grain-free is a fad diet or is it a lifestyle worth trying for a period of time to see what will happen?

On October 21st Dr. Davis asked his Wheat Belly followers:

Parents: What have you noticed in your CHILDREN who have gone wheat and grain free?

Here are their comments:

My daughter went grain free in 8th grade. She lost 50 pounds, cut minutes off her mile time, and hardly ever gets sick. She is a senior now and has maintained her weight and her grain free lifestyle. She has not cheated in 4 years.

10-day Gallbladder Flush

gall

Some of my friends are doing it regularly and I have done it once; a 10-day mild gallbladder flush. For ten consecutive days I ingested the following, in the mornings, on an empty stomach:

2 tablespoons of olive oil followed by 2 tablespoons of fresh lemon juice.

The stones won’t come out as solid stones because of the mild variation. Nevertheless, the pain in my shoulders disappeared so something did happen.

Did you know that you get stones by eating low fat food. Read more about it here and here
