My years with Lyme disease (Borrelia burgdorferi)

You have probably guessed that it is Lyme disease (Borrelia burgdorferi), and co-infections I have, and wrote about in the previous post.

Lyme is spread primarily through the bite of a tic, and dears, mice, birds, and other small animals are hosts for the tics. Some researchers believe that some biting insects such as mosquitoes, fleas, biting flies, and lice may also transmit Lyme. And, that it can also be sexually transmitted, transmitted by a blood transfusion, and transmitted from an infected mother to the baby. (more…)

A family in chaos – autism

Imagine a family of four in total chaos:

The parents are always in stress mode, their sleep is poor, they are arguing all the time, and they are overweight, depressed and tired. On top of that, their autistic child screams from morning until evening and is not communicable. They have stomach pain, asthma, eczema and other allergies. Meet the Mauritson family from Denmark.

The sons’ autism became worse and worse and they started to talk about taking him to an institution for children with autism, and without language. The whole family had reached the bottom, but as a last resort they started to Google and read about autism. One thing they came across on the Internet and wanted to try was changing their diet from a bad fast food kind of diet to a healthier lifestyle with real food.

They stopped eating:

  1. Gluten (wheat and other grains)
  2. Sugar
  3. Diary products
  4. Fast food and other foods with chemicals.

It was a big step and it wasn’t easy all the time. After three weeks with the new diet the whole family started to feel and sleep better, and the asthma disappeared slowly. Over time, the autistic son came more and more out from his “shell” and started to communicate.

When I saw this family for the first time it was on Swedish television when they were launching the above book about their life. The autistic son was talking as a perfectly normal child and they let us know that he was very social and empathic, and he loved to cuddle. He was back in a normal school again. They had healed from their health issues and the parents had lost 50 kg in weight. Their home is a “silent zone” so no cell phones, computers or TV’s are on. Now they socialize with each other instead.

The parents thought this recovery was so amazing so they wrote the above book “Kärnfrisk”, which means Superhealthy. They also started to do workshops for children with autism, A.D.H.D., and Asperger’s. because they felt the mission to spread this important information.

Dr. Campbell-McBride is working with autistic children with a simple remedy; food! Find out what food here.

GAPS Diet – food is medicine

Last week I wrote about the biggest buzz at the moment, GAPS Diet and Dr. Natasha Campbell-McBride. GAPS stands for Gut and Psychology Syndrome and is a way to heal the digestive system.

MS and other autoimmune diseases, allergies, schizophrenia, autism, ADHD, depression, diabetes type 1, arthritis, cancer, heart problems, epilepsy, skin conditions etc.; all can be treated, according to Dr. Campbell-McBride, just by following the GAPS diet for a limited time.

This is a must-see video by Dr. Campbell-McBride where she explains the system in detail. Watch it and I don´t think you will regret it!

So, what exactly do you eat on the GAPS diet? Stay tuned for more information tomorrow.

Success stories

During 2012 I collected some success stories written on the Swedish dietdoctor blog etc. I would like to share them with you.

“Gassy stomach and trouble in digesting meat and spicy food etc, disappeared as if by magic when I changed my diet. My skin and hair, that have always been very dry, became healthy looking, and the nails stronger. Dandruff and knee pain disappeared but they return immediately if I eat grains, for example half a slice of bread. My severe PMS, my anxiety and my depression disappeared. The 25 kg (55 pounds) that I lost is just a bonus.” ~T2012
