Sugar Science Initiative

The research shows strong evidence of links between the over consumption of added sugar and chronic diseases, including Type 2 diabetes, heart disease and liver disease. It also reveals evidence linking sugar to Alzheimer’s disease and cancer, although the team assessed that more research is needed before those links can be considered conclusive.

The average American consumes nearly three times the recommended amount of added sugar every day, which is taking a tremendous toll on our nation’s health.

SugarScience.org cites research showing that drinking just one can of soda per day can increase a person’s risk of dying from heart disease by nearly one-third, and can raise the risk of getting Type 2 diabetes by one-quarter.

More than 27 million Americans have been diagnosed with heart disease, which is the nation’s leading cause of death. Another 25.8 million Americans have Type 2 diabetes, caused by the body’s resistance to the hormone insulin coupled with the inability to produce enough insulin to regulate blood sugar levels.

Twenty years ago, type 2 diabetes was unheard of among children, but now, more than 13,000 children are diagnosed with it each year. Diabetes is a devastating disease and we know that it is directly related to the added sugar we consume in food and beverages.

Another rising concern is the impact of added sugar on Non-Alcoholic Fatty Liver Disease (NAFLD), which affects 31 percent of adults and 13 percent of children, and can lead to cirrhosis and liver failure.

Parents: What have you noticed in your CHILDREN who have gone wheat- and grain-free?

Our 5 1/2 year old is no longer falling asleep unexpectedly during the day. She is in better spirits, has no more sudden mucus-like bowel movements or diarrhea, has no more rashes on bottom or backs of arms and is overall soooo much better!!

By now, you know that I love success stories and one of my favorite Facebook pages is Wheat Belly. When they recently asked their amazing followers if they had experienced a reduction or reversal of any AUTOIMMUNE CONDITION with wheat/grain elimination?

My years with Lyme disease (Borrelia burgdorferi)

You have probably guessed that it is Lyme disease (Borrelia burgdorferi), and co-infections I have, and wrote about in the previous post.

Lyme is spread primarily through the bite of a tic, and dears, mice, birds, and other small animals are hosts for the tics. Some researchers believe that some biting insects such as mosquitoes, fleas, biting flies, and lice may also transmit Lyme. And, that it can also be sexually transmitted, transmitted by a blood transfusion, and transmitted from an infected mother to the baby. (more…)
