All disease begins in the gut – Hippocrates

If you think about what Hippocrates is saying, it’s not very strange, to think that people will feel better after a couple of weeks removing allergens from their diets. I have written about elimination diets before and back then it took three weeks now it’s down to one week according to Dr. Mark Hyman’s new book. Is three weeks of your lifetime really too long? Isn’t it worth three to four weeks to try an elimination diet with the chance of getting well from headaches, brain fog, stomach pain, and many other health issues? You will be amazed how quickly a body can heal.

Take a peak at Dr. Hyman explaining his one week elimination diet …..or make it 3-4 weeks. A small part of your life that can make a huge difference!

How to pick the best yogurt!

I remember when I moved to the U.S. I had a hard time finding a good yogurt. All the yogurts in my grocery store were packed with sugar and carrageenan. Did you know that yogurt could contain as much sugar as cookies or sodas?

If you can tolerate dairy products like yogurt, here are some criteria to think about:

  • You don’t want to have artificial hormones (rBGH) in the yogurt so buy organic or if it says “No rBGH.”
  • Always choose the whole milk version
  • No added sugar, artificial sweeteners, honey, or syrups.
  • No carrageenan

You may be asking yourself, which brands are the best? Check out this ranked list of yogurt brands. If you have difficulty finding good brands, you can always ask your store if they can stock the brand you would like to have.

  • If you want you can flavor the yogurt with pure vanilla powder or cinnamon.
  • Add berries like blueberries, raspberries, and strawberries if you can tolerate them (not if you have diabetes or high blood pressure).
  • Top your yogurt with a mix of nuts and seeds like almonds, hazelnuts, pecans, walnuts, Brazil nuts, pumpkin seeds, sunflower seeds, and coconut flakes. Buy them whole and chop them yourself if you want, to avoid mold spores. Make sure you keep them in the refrigerator in an airtight glass container.

The Virgin Diet

I’m very skeptic to the word “diet,” especially books with the word. But, recently I was very surprised and impressed when I listened to J.J. Virgin, the author of The Virgin Diet.

The Virgin Diet is an elimination diet. For three weeks you will take away 100% of the seven below:

  • Eggs
  • Soy
  • Corn
  • Peanuts
  • Sugar/sweeteners
  • Dairy
  • Gluten

No snacking is allowed. Often the food you crave the most is the worst for you. Don’t forget to drink a lot of filtered water.
How are you feeling after three weeks without the above? Hopefully much better. Slowly introduce the above foods again. I would not introduce sugar/artificial sweeteners, gluten, corn, soy and peanuts again though. After every meal you should feel energized.

It’s fairly easy to do and it’s inexpensive; a great way to find what is causing you issues.

Here is our shopping list to help with the food planning (exclude eggs and dairy).

Good luck!

To Juice or not to juice?

Yes, they are here again! Dave Asprey, the Bulletproof Executive and Abel James, the Fat-burning Man. Now they are discussing juicing, to be or not to be and what to eat according to them.

I´m not a “juicer” myself but I could see, while living in the U.S. that it has been a big deal and probably still is.

By now, you know that I love success stories and one of my favorite Facebook pages is Wheat Belly. When they recently asked their amazing followers if they had experienced a reduction or reversal of any AUTOIMMUNE CONDITION with wheat/grain elimination?

They got these amazing comments:

I have lowered my thyroid antibodies from over 400 to 298 after one year wheat free. Keeping in mind that I have had Hashimoto’s for 20 Years and didn’t know about my wheat allergy, a 25% reduction is a decent improvement in only one year. Down 85 pounds now…

Have you found your perfect diet?

Have you found your perfect diet yet? Which should be for the rest of your life so that’s why I often prefer to call it “lifestyle” instead of a diet. Paleo, LCHF (low carb healthy fat)………

This is a laid-back conversation between Dave Asprey, the Bulletproof Executive and Abel James, the Fat-burning Man. Two “high performance” men discussing food and health. As they say:

If you are not thinking, then you will be doing it wrong

If you are on Paleo and start to eat processed foods marked “Paleo”, think again. It´s still processed food! Don’t be fooled into eat highly processed foods marked “low carb”, “Paleo”, “Vegan”, or even “gluten free.”

What’s the perfect diet for you?

Low carb breakfast recipes

I believe many people struggle with the breakfast. My two favorites are:

Mixed platter with avocado, cucumber, ham or any other kind of meat, eggs mashed in butter or coconut oil, etc.

Greek yogurt (plain, organic, 10 % fat) with berries, mixed nuts (walnuts, Brazil nuts, almonds, hazelnuts pecans), small amounts of seeds (pumpkin and sunflower seeds), and coconut flakes.

Some people prefer only Bulletproof coffee as breakfast and if you are not hungry or don’t give yourself time to eat breakfast, perhaps it’s a good choice, but personally I prefer proper food with more nutrients.

Here you have some more breakfast recipes from Authority Nutrition. However, you will want to skip fruit, syrup and honey! Small amounts of berries should be enough, if they won’t give you cravings.

I know that eggs are a favorite for many but don’t eat eggs every day. Three to four times a week is enough, because it is very easy to become allergic to eggs if you are eating them every day. Try to have three to four different breakfast dishes to choose from.

If you still don’t know how to think about low carb eating, you can always repeat 10 times ;-)

“Low-fat foods, sugar, and grains make me fat.
High-fat foods make me thin.”

According to Gallup it’s a long way to go.
